Quartiers Métropolitains d’Innovation : discover the 30 projects of the 1st cohort !
30 innovative, high-impact solutions are currently being tested in four towns in the metropolitan area: Aulnay-sous-Bois, Meudon, Noisy-le-Grand and Sceaux. For 18 months, Paris&Co - the local innovation agency for Paris and the metropolitan area - will support the winners in rolling out, monitoring, evaluating and promoting their projects. The aim of this approach? To identify and then roll out innovative solutions for the ecological and social transition.
The Quartiers Métropolitains d'Innovation programme, unique in France for its scale, showcases innovative solutions that address the challenges faced by the metropolitan area and the urban transformations taking place in its municipalities: adaptation to climate change, local activities, commercial revitalisation, the circular economy, management of public spaces and new urban services, mobility, logistics, housing, waste, energy and networks, construction sites, etc.
Following a call for experimentation launched by the Greater Paris Metropolis and Paris&Co in March, 30 solutions were selected and announced at the VivaTech fair on 14 June 2023, in the presence of President Ollier and the mayors of the 4 winning municipalities. The call for metropolitan projects was an unprecedented success, with :
- More than 360 expressions of interest from a wide range of project leaders – mostly start-ups, but also associations, major groups, cooperatives, etc
- 21% of international applicants, underlining the attractiveness of the metropolis and its influence both in France and internationally
- A clear interest in 2023 in the theme of Flows, mobility and logistics, with more than 35 applications.
Where are we now ?
Since they have been assigned to the Quartiers Métropolitains d'Innovation municipalities, the entrepreneurs have been working closely with local authorities and Paris&Co to find their future testing grounds and forge partnerships with local players.
The first deployments took place in the last half of 2023 - around 25% of the solutions have already been deployed - and new launches are planned for early 2024. Elected representatives and partners were also able to discover the project leaders and their solutions at key events at which the Greater Paris Metropolis is involved every year - Impact Cities Summit, Innopolis Expo, Smart City Expo... and meetings of the Community of Experimenters.
